Replace The Umbrella With The Sun Shelter For The Beach
A more recent development in the world of camping has been a shelter used for convenience and not necessarily for overnight camping. Generally used for shorter periods of time, it provides shelter from the sun and is ideal to be used on the beach or in a sunny location. It could be enjoyed by your family having the children outside for a while playing in the fresh air and the surroundings. The Beach Shelter could also be right at home in your back yard in a sunny location or in the shade depending on the weather conditions.
Dome tents are a simple structure and are available starting out with the Sun Shelter size. The basic Dome Tent has 2 poles which cross at the peak and a rectangular floor. Special fittings at each corner fit into sockets at the end of each pole maintaining the shape of the tent while running the poles inside the tent fabric with fastening hardware. Dome tents are free standing but with winds, tying down with tent pegs would make you feel more secure.
Tent fabric may be made of many materials including cotton, nylon, felt, and polyester. Nylon and polyester are much lighter than cotton and do not absorb much water. With suitable coatings they can be very waterproof. Some Beach Shelters use specially treated fabric which is opaque to ultra-violet light and so provide some protection against sunburns. Even on a day when heat is not an issue, there is always the danger of sunburn. Bringing sunscreen is a good policy, and if you have the option, you may want to place your shelter in the shade. Instead of spreading a blanket out on the beach in the direct sun, you can appreciate how nice it would be to have a shelter which is covered, but having two sides open to prevent heat from building up and having proper air flow to keep the interior cool. With infants it would be preferable to have the floor in, but as they get older the floor could be detached so they could enjoy the sand while being protected from the sun. I guess we will not have to use those clumsy beach umbrellas anymore.
